The Fiji National University (FNU) is a dual sector university in Fiji which provides both Higher Education (HE) and Technical & Vocational Education & Training (TVET) Courses with the Vision of being the leading dual-sector transformative university predicated on inclusiveness, innovation and accessibility for Fiji and the Pacific. FNU was formally constituted in 2010 by the Fiji National University Act 2009, which amalgamated six government higher education colleges.
These were: (1) Fiji School of Medicine (est. 1885) (2) Fiji School of Nursing (est. 1893) (3) Fiji College of Advanced Education (est. 1947) (4) Fiji College of Agriculture (est. 1954) (5) Fiji Institute of Technology (est. 1963) and (6) Lautoka Teachers’ College (est. 1978)
The University now has 5 founding colleges namely: (1) College of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (CAFF), (2) College of Business, Hospitality and Tourism Studies (CBHTS), (3) College of Engineering, Science and Technology (CEST), (4) College of Humanities and Education and (CHE) and (5) College of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences (CMNHS). In 2021 the Fiji Maritime Academy (FMA), formerly part of CEST, became an independent college. The University also includes the National Training and Productivity Centre (NTPC) which has a national network of smaller training campuses in Suva, Nadi and Lautoka.
